Fred, are you doing the campground host thing, or just camping out in general, or visiting relatives in the area, or what? If you're going to be dealing mainly with the Snake, in case you haven't heard about these, be on the lookout for the BNSF Low Line job which comes up to Ayer from the Tri Cities. Great Northwest's Ayer Turn from Lewiston tries to meet up with the Low Line at Ayer so both can go home with the interchanged cars, but it doesn't always time out that way. And there's the Blue Mountain/Watco grain shuttle between Hooper Junction and the Wallula barge terminal. Marc Entze or others can report its current operating day(s). Used to be Saturday, then moved to Sunday, then I heard it was twice a week for a while.
