As part of their Bicentenial celebration, the City of Yakima purchased two Brill built single truck Oporto street cars and numbered them 1776 and 1976. In July of 1978, 1776 was seen inbound from Selah crossing the Yakima River. Also seen on 6th St. returning to Yakima. At the time, YVT (owned by Union Pacific) was still providing freight service as seen with steeple cab #298 and was found switching the apple packing plants. By the mid eighties, freight service was abandoned but the streetcar service continued but fell on hard times They are trying to re-establish passenger service but currently only running on Pine St. Wire thefts on the Selah line prevented service there but efforts are underway to repair the wire.
