Too bad. I've been on that base many times as a civilian visiting - some of the rolling stock was pretty badly corroded in the salt air.

All of this I imagine brings the UP trackage in the Huntington Beach area closer to abandonment. SP abandoned the spur into Los Alamitos back in the 90s, and the track into the old North American Rockwell plant adjacent to the weapons station was abandoned some time ago as well. There aren't many businesses left on the line through Smeltzer and Wintersburg, with the exception of a lumber mill at the end of the spur. There was a Levitz furniture store that got regular rail deliveries, but that closed a couple of years ago and the property is going to be cleared to make room for apartment buildings.
