Uncle Pete had more $$$ to throw around, so they got away with running their big beasts on the ol' WP. The initial issue was clearance due to the many curves in the Canyon, but after sending the 6936 on the initial run of a DD along the Feather River, their fears were eased. Centennials ran on the WP proper from 1984-85, though the preserved 6936 continues to see occasional special service(even saw freight service again briefly about the mid '90s due to a power shortage) that takes it on ex WP iron. As of this writing, it is parked on Feather River Rail Society trackage for winter storage.
