IIRC, Russ Danley, "the Buddha",Newhall yardmaster, told me that the caboose finally simply fell apart from old age and use. Also,, those prune trees along the ROW there in Monta Vista were across the street from my grandparent's house from where I used to watch the trains to Los Altos every day. Sigh.
