This day in Railroad History
February 17, 1953
The Louisville and Nashville Railroad the retired #152, the last surviving "K" class Pacific steam locomotive. #152 was built in 1905 by Rogers Locomotive Works. L&N President John E. Tilford personally ordered the locomotive to not be destroyed and turned to scrap. Eventually the #152 was sent to the Kentucky Railway Museum in Louisville, Kentucky as a static display. After thirteen years of work, in September 1985 it was again in working condition, thanks to funding by the National Park Service and the Brown Foundation. It operates on selected weekends throughout the summer and fall.

All four of Eastern Washington Gateway's locomotives, three SD45's and a GP7, prepare to leave Davenport WA for Cheney WA with a grain train. It is unusual for all 4 to be on a single train. It is almost sunset on a rainy Friday 2/12/2010. Fans of the big 20 cylinder EMD's won't be disappointed with these 3 examples. Working GP7's are also few and far between in 2010.
