My Grandfather did!
At least he had a hand in it - from 1929 on - as an SN employee. He Also worked the Toll Authority signaling that replaced it all. I never was clear on why SN employees were involved, but I always thought it was sort of a payment-in-kind, in consideration for SN's trackage and traffic rights over the Key System from 40th & Shafter to the pier, then later to the Bridge.
He also was involved in installing cab signals on the SN cars that used the bridge. I also vaguely remember something about a mechanical automatic trip-stopping mechanism he had to maintain on the SN cars that used the Key Pier. But my memory is real fuzzy about the trip-stop -- maybe somebody could fill me in on that.
