Railroading Questions

Last Saturday on the tracks alongside I-80 in Davis was a long string of flat cars with MOW equipment. I've never seen so much equipment in one locations. Whats the reason ?

Where is a good source (website or something else) to find out about model railroad shows, exhibits, open house, etc. in NorCal and Oregon ?
