There is no better mobile scanner than a Motorola Spectra as far as selectivity and sensitivity since you can adjust the sensitivity with the squelch adjustment.

With the narrow banding that will happen in a few years, there are many Spectras starting to show up for around 100 dollars or so. They take up very little more space than a mobile (rather than handheld) radio and perform better than anything else I have used. If you don't need more than 32 channels then a MaxTrac would suffice but the selectivity is not as good as a Spectra.
