It's still a very urban area, and there's probably a lot more chain link fence blocking one time photograph opportunities, but I have to say I feel safer now than I did ten years ago, and even safer than I did twenty years ago. Maybe I've just gotten old and stupid, but It seems like there are less toughs around. Still a lot of homeless, of course.
