The golf course - simply called Chambers Bay, has been open since 2007. It was designed by Robert Trent Jones II as a Scottish Links style course. It's won several New golf course awards and is scheduled to host the 2010 U.S. Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Open. Both considered quite an achievement for such a new course. Owned by Pierce county and managed by KemperSports, it has not been a financial success. With the U.S. Open looming, the county has had to loan 2.5 million to the golf course.
The golf course is part of the larger Chambers Creek Properties county park, which includes walking paths through and around the golf course, with views of the BNSF main lines, a large green that includes concrete remnants of the quarry operations, and a dog park. Under construction is a modest little overpass that will allow access from the park to the water front area. Latter a pedestrian dock will be built (or rebuilt from an old quarry dock). These newest additions will also provide some new waterside views of the railroad and bridge 14.
