Not likely to happen. The Corps of Engineers has stated that it would cost less to maintain the bridge "as is" than to remove it.
For clarification, the bridge is not on the trackage in the STB notice. The bridge was constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1951 and was used by Southern Pacific (Union Pacific, after 9/11/1996) to access Alameda. The last rail movement occurred in 1998. The lift span normally rests at 65 feet above water level, well clear of most vessels. The only regular commercial water traffic is the tug and barge operated by Tidewater Sand & Gravel (located just south of the High Street drawbridge), which can pass under the lift span at this height.
