Thanks, Bruce, for clarifying the situation with Potlatch. Weyerhauser has explored the REIT option; lots of tax advantages but it requires almost total restructuring & selling of non - land assets. From what I've read on this site, Mr. Williams is as much a scrapper as he is an operator of shortlines; the future of St. Maries would seem far from secure.
