1. Regarding news coverage of the 1910 fires, watch for the claim that the fires were started by sparks/cinders from a Milwaukee locomotive. I believe most historians assert the fires were ignited by lightning strikes.
2. Do you guys realize just how close Wallace came to being on an NP mainline? The NP line over Lookout was supposed to be a temporary line until a longer tunnel could be built, and the NP surveyed a route over Fourth of July pass. This potential line would have cut something like 80 miles off the Sandpoint alignment, and if built would probably be the MRL mainline today!
