Anyone have a map of the proposed Altamont route?
Regarding the peninsula route, I agree that some money could possibly be saved by colocating CalTrain and HSR; however, mixing slow commuter trains with fast intercity service is not trivial if you don't want to slow down the faster trains. So it's going to require large investments in any case. I'd expect at least partial four-track sections, perhaps all the way that the corridor is shared. Plus building under- and overpasses for grade separation.
