The electorate was sold a bullet train in Prop. 1A But bullets follow a straight path - they don't go meandering on an excursion in, around, and under the Tehachapi Loop.
An incremental, gussied-up Amtrak, is ok with me but it should have been presented as such so the public could decide whether they wanted to pay for it or not. Now I see Prop 1A as a bait and switch and probably should be nullified.
It appears they are planning for an incompatible hsr and Caltrain - essentially 2 segregated 2 track operations. As much as I find fault with BART, BART Ring-the-Bay makes more sense to me.
