I suspected that Ewe - Pee, like many other RR's, has 'cleaned up ' their corporate structure & eliminated unneeded predecessor RR's. Conversely, some RR's keep former subsidiaries & merged RR's for legal & tax purposes. In the 1930's, Espee sought to remove Interstate operating authority from the original Central Pacific line thru Promentory, UT., but they did not want to physically remove the line for fear of hurting the Federal land grants & charter.
Question for Erik H., what was your source for the info ???
