It's not nearly so far from these places, although driving distance might be. As the crow flies, Wallowa is only 49 miles from Idaho and 75 miles from Washington. To La Grande OR, the other end of the line is more like 75 miles from Idaho and about the same to WA. This is VERY rugged country!

We lived on the south side of the Wallowa Mountains in a remote location, about as far north as you could go. If we could have tunneled straight to Wallowa, it was only around 15-20 miles. As the car drives, more like 150!
