As far as the politics go, you could substitute "Virginia and Truckee" and the rest of the petty political BS would fit the rebuilt V&T's future -- how to figure out limiting operations to lose the least money! They've already cut more than 25% of the V&T's first season. I rode last year but haven't been back to the area, as I live several hundred miles away. Various news articles and websites and groups tell a different story, but PORK is right.
