I recently completed a codicil to my will and trust regarding my slide collection. I have not yet signed it. In recent months, I have gotten very disgusted with some individuals who make it their business to buy and sell photos. It seems that even credit for who took the photos, and why, vanishes rather quickly. My wife has no particular interest in my photos but does realize some may be worthwhile and, overall wants them to go to my son and grandson. Should they go to my son, in a flash he and his wife will sell them for whatever they can get on E-bay or the like to finance their next high, next bottle of Southern Comfort, or their next tattoo or whatever.
The problems with donating to a museum have been discussed earlier. As I stated on another forum, I am considering stipulating the destruction of my slides upon my death. Right, wrong, or indifferent, this is the way I feel. I remember watching to lifetime collection of Charles Smallwood being auctioned to the highest bidder. My slide are of value to me and represent close to 45 years of work. They are not going to end on anybody's sale table like so many candy bars.
