Just the opposite

Many, MANY years ago I was chasing the circus train up the coast and stopped on the then new Highway 101 overpass at the south end of Gilroy. I knew there was always the possibility that I would get the attention of the California Highway Patrol but I figured the odds were in my favor and I'd get the shot without being caught. I got out and set up my shot. Well, typical of my luck a CHP officer pulled up right behind me after I stopped. He simply asked if everything was alright and what I was doing. I explained what I was there for, which was supported by the camera on the tripod, and he simply said, "Ok". He then asked if I would be leaving as soon as the train passed and I said I would be. Again he simply said "Ok" and returned to his car and left his lights on as protecton so I could get my shot. I got it, and after a friendly wave to him, I was off again for the chase never to see that officer again. Of course by now he is most undoubtedly retired but it goes to show there are, or at least were, some really cool officers out there.
