I experienced that age attitude way back at a club as a 16 year old modeler/fan with a brass 2-8-0 and 2-8-2 (bought with lawn mowing money) at a club with members who had HO Max Gray & Olympia engines that they had bought new ( = old geezers). The line was you can be a junior member when you turn 18 & "our insurance doesn't allow minors". I stuck with it, and was allowed to participate every other month or so, after they realized that I was more advanced than a Tyco trainset. As for the insurance explanation, I think they guy pulled one over on me.
