Fortress, a big manager of Private Equity investors, bought it. What is Private Equity? The same as the stock market, except the holdings are private, unlisted, and generally owned by pension plans, university endowments, and some very rich people. Easier to run a company when you don't need to worry about every ridiculous SEC regulation.
too much money has been going into private equity managers, so speculators try go guess who the private equity funds like Fortress will buy next. I was actually thinking of "shorting" RRA stock but for the fear that someone like Fortress would overpay for them.
I think it is a bad deal for Fortress. Railtex did some bad work with their contracts with the Tier 1 railroads when they bought branch lines. $300 per railcar, with raises per annum at only 60% of inflation? Come on! Maybe Fortress will be able to renegotiate those bad deals on better terms. We will see.
Perhaps someone from inside the industry, ON THE BUSINESS SIDE who sees contract issues, will have something to add.
