BN was fairly fast but last engine was painted green in 1977. In 1980 they merged with SLSF and haven't had a uniform scheme since. BN might have been in a hurry to unite the 3 GN, 2 NP, 3 (or 4) CB&Q and SP&S schemes. Or it might have been a response to merger 66 years in the making. Of course if you count passenger (BN "hockey stick" on E units) and freight then BN never had a unified scheme.

Penn Central was very quick to repaint although some units lacked the "mating worms" herald.
