RAND McNALLY "the road atlas", published annually. Carry a supply of high-lighters and use them.

The "US" highway system was originated about 100 years ago, originally a patchwork of County and State roads. Gradually developed into a very usable system in it's day.

US 20 is still in one piece from Newport, Oregon to Boston.

And then there is US 30 across Nebraska. Our linear Mecca. I still remember 1936; on my knees in the back seat. This bug bit me.
