The Lobato trestle is inspected on a regular basis (as are all bridges on the line) and was in good condition prior to the fire. Keep in mind that creosote-soaked wood burns very hot, and the ties on the trestle were recently replaced; combine that with the light construction of the trestle and it's no surprise that the fire caused that kind of damage to the bridge deck.
