Talked to some folks today, SD-45's are off. Track department had their say. If they are able to improve trackage with ties and rail like they would like they might try them in the future. I would love to see 6 or 7 GP-9's like the BN used to use in the 70's and 80's. MILW used to run U-36C (or were they U-33C's) on their northwestern Washington branches with rail as light as 56 pound, most was 70 pound, and no ties with little problems, they also ran over BN trackage rights that prohibited the BN from running 6 axle power. The U boats stayed on the rail better there than on the main line---go figure. Had a good phone conversation today with a Washington & Idaho shipper who stated that the paper barriers are to remain in place and free interchange with the UP--should the bridge get fixed or the Oakesdale-Thornton connection get built---is still a long way off. No details on why the change of direction. Remember these are some of the folks that were going to be running trains on the Grangeville and Headquarters branches of the old CSP---that hasn't happened yet either. Also understand that the Eastern Washington Gateway RR will take over 6/18/07---not certain what's going to happen for the couple of weeks in between.
