This is another very interesting part of our post WW II history. One would hope that someone would pick up on your idea and publish something about the Friendship Train.
It is also very interesting to me that the people of France responded to the Friendship Train and the American people's generosity with The Merci Train, 49 boxcars of gifts from the French people to American citizens in gratitude for their war relief efforts after WW II. Many of these 125+ year old (40 & 8) boxcars still exist and are on display in various States. I believe Oregon's represents our oldest remaining boxcar.
More information on the Merci Train is available from the excellent Web site maintained by Ed Bennett: www.mercitrain.org.
If anyone knows of a book or video about the Friendship Train, please post. Thanks!
