Gotta go with XWP on this one...the original route of 40 is down in the canyon to the immediate north of I-80 as you drop eastward through Silver Zone. You can see parts of the US 40 grade from the westbound lanes if you look down and to your right.

Old 40 does go underneath the railroad a few hundred yards north of the interstate. Still has one of the old cast concrete WESTERN PACIFIC bridges, complete with some very dirty pictures spray painted on the walls, at least when I last went through it...
