Where is "Vista Grande" ? Have never heard of it! Fellow member Al's comments are well taken..
Running here and there and doing this and that takes Volunteers and lots of money. We used to operate 22-car trains on the RVJ to CANNON track over thirty years ago, but ties and roadbed wear out if not maintained.
If you are really excited about SN 1005, consider this possibility for a great photo run:
December 6, 2012 will be the 60th Anniversary of the FINAL operation of an electric-powered passenger train on the Solano County trackage of the SN.
It is extremely possible that the SAME train consist could commemorate the event, which consisted of SN 1005, SN MW-302 (1020) and SL&U 751... These cars are at RVJ and in running condition.
What I don't personally understand from my fellow members is why there is still a bank of messed-up resistor grids under 1005, like Al alluded to, after a $ 250,000+ restoration...
Strange indeed !
In the future, FF, watch for the operation of a total SN passenger train consisting of:
SN 1005, OA&E (SN) 1020, SN 1019, and SN "Bidwell" ... These cars are at RVJ.
C'mon Al-- Get those resistor grids done !
