Moonlight Dome was built for C&O's Chessie streamliner, which was built, but never entered service. There were 3 sets of equipment built for the train, which, although it was supposed to be a daytime Washington-Cincinatti train, include dome sleepers. The three dome sleepers, including Moonlight Dome, went to the B&O, where they ran on the Capitol Ltd. until the late 60s. The odd car was used on one of the secondary Washington-Chicago trains on an every other day schedule. In the late 60s, the cars were sold to SCL, which used them in Washington-Florida service, then Amtrak had them.
As an aside, the Chessie's dome observation coaches were sold to the Rio Grande, which used them on the Royal Gorge and later on the Yampa Valley Mail (Denver-Craig). Most of the rest of the Chessie cars were sold to Argentina.
The Plaza Santa Fe was a Santa Fe Super Chief dome lounge. The short end of the car had the Turquoise Room private dining room.
The Silver Lariat is an ex-CZ dome coach.
Palm Leaf is an ex-ATSF 10-6 sleeper.
