The 257th Avenue overpass in Troutdale has sidewalks from which you can shoot and good photo angles (I shot the 844 from here in May 2007). Parking is available along the main street in Troutdale and in the public lot behind the shops on the north side of the highway.

East of Multnomah Falls, along the Historic Columbia River Highway, you can park in the parking area at Horsetail Falls and walk a short distance to the west switch at the Dodson passing siding. This spot is right alongside the highway and has a short access drive (I shot the 3985 here in 1995).
