I don't believe that you can get Mt. Hood in any picture if you are down in the gorge. Your best bet is east of The Dalles looking back west. I used to live in Hood River and there are several spots in that area, especially betwwen Hood River and The Dalles that you can get close to the tracks with good parking. There is a short tunnel there that is a great place to get pictures as well as the bridge over the Hood River.
