So do we. We really prefer daylight running. The fires forced this particular situation.
You heard an empty 109 car westbound Co-load train. EWG has 72 hours to get it loaded and returned to BNSF in Cheney. We got it Thurs afternoon at Cheney and the intention was to have it spotted (52 in Creston, 52 in Wilbur, and 5 in Almira) Thursday evening. The train was stopped at the east end of Davenport at the request of the Lincoln County Sheriff. As soon as we got the OK from them, we continued west. Fortunately, no fire damage to the RR.
We started gathering the loads at Almira on Friday late afternoon. Since both Wilbur and Creston can load only 26 at a shot we had to switch them. The complete train started east on Saturday and the BNSF picked it up in Cheney late Sunday evening. We were ready well within the 72 hour limit but BNSF couldn't seem to find power for it! They finally got to Cheney about 11:00pm Sunday night. The BNSF power (3 dash-9, 5311 leading) was put on the point at Jensen Rd, at MP 3.5 just north of Cheney.
Interesting consist: SD45s 8924-8924 on the point and GP7 1617 - SD45 375 running as a mid-train helper buried 57 cars deep. 1617 was MUed with the 375! The train bested Deep Creek hill at 9.5 mph! This will likely be our standard Co-load train lashup for future trains.
The next Co-load train should be this Thursaday (9-2) and should be going all the way to Coulee City. Subject to change, of course.
Steel loads on the Geiger spur are slow but steady. We spotted 5 loads there last night while waiting for BNSF to deliver their power to us at Cheney.
Rob, come down to the depot in Davenport sometime and identify yourself. We are a friendly outfit.
