How about the Robert Dollar #3? Do a huge amount of work, only to be stabbed in the back and see it given away. Then there's Sacramento Northern #712, given away even though it fulfilled the museum's collection policy in every respect and was the very last SN locomotive. Ah, but it didn't have a trolley pole! No wonder all those people--with their skills and dedication--left in disgust.
