Thanks for posting this Drew. Even thought we are the same age, you were ahead of me as a railfan and out shooting a year or two sooner. Medco had 3 Willamettes, the 4 & 7 are both saved. They also had a number 2, which lasted until 1959, rather late actually.
I don't think that you were in any jeopardy when entering their property, they were pretty tolerant of camera toting folks. I did the same thing in June of '68 when I got their Baldwin diesel and was ignored.
