I don't know if anyone saw this. Let's see if I can paste in the link. [

In a nutshell, Los Angeles is the natural terminal for HSR, but the Agency, for political reasons, is putting it in Anaheim. That means that LAUS is a "through" station, and, following Agency policy, needs to have track space for through trains to bang through at 220 mph.
As you know, a train going that fast needs an absolutely straight track, thus the approach from the north is 2 miles of straight track, and also from the south, total four miles. The station is impaled on this four-mile track like an apple on the head of a small child impaled on an arrow.
Can you imagine the uproar from the LA city fathers and businessmen, if they were told that everything, everything in the way must be moved or torn down? Apparently a fair amount of our money was spent drawing up plans before the HSRA managers finally conceded that it wouldn't work. Just another sad example of how clueless these people are.
