1. Access is off of Center Street. UP Police patrol the area, don't go unless invited.
2. Yes. See [
www.orhf.org]. Schedule is updated for 2010. Weekends of December 3-5 and 10-12.
3. According to [
www.orhf.org], the "deadline" is January 2012. Then again, about a dozen other "deadlines" have come and gone. The area around the roundhouse has been used for TOFC storage for at least a decade.
4. Website seems up to date. Not a whole lot of activity. Planning on moving to a new facility near OMSI, but the site is tied up with construction for the next couple of years so not much can be done except find another "temporary" home for the time being. OPRR doesn't have any property to store three big steam locomotives on; P&W hasn't been as accommodating as in the past. Maybe BNSF can help? Or, UP has a lot of excess property up at Albina where the old truck terminal used to be. Looks like a perfect location for a temporary museum - even has light rail access a short walk away.
