As mentioned by Graham, the name is Eileen Williams Samuels.
Mrs. Samuels is the Mother of Dick Samuels (aka Shortline Sammie) and the Grandmother of the OPR crew, Tim, Brian and Craig Samuels. Sadly, Mrs. Samuels passed away not long ago.
The GMD-1 is currently the largest locomotive in the OPR fleet. Each operating locomotive has a unique history and a special place in the OPR, but it is fitting that the most prominent locomotive in the fleet always be named after her.
Mrs. Samuels name used to grace the No. 1810, a GP7 and at one time, the largest locomotive on the OPR. The 1810 was sold a few years ago to aid in the purchase of the No. 901, which is an SW900 that fits better in the switching role that its been put to use as on the Molalla Branch.
So it's nice to see her name displayed once again where it belongs, watching over the OPR, her crew and her family.
