I remember the day the special showed up in San Diego. It was quite a day, as the Marine band
was there to entertain visitors. UP951 I believed was not running, it had run out of fuel.
ATSF 5995 was a frequent visitor to San Diego on freight trains. Late January 1988 ATSF
ran a special down to SD for the Super Bowl, ATSF 5998 or 5996 was leading, what a rush coming into downtown. By the time we got to the depot, the consist was just parked and lots of
photographers were getting their shots. San Diego depot was a great place to watch all
the PV's on the weekends. Left in May 88 and can't wait to return.
