Thanks for the info on the V&T licence. There is no base station or antenna installed at the Carson city address. The Virginia city address confuses map quest but I think it is the shop area. I do not know if they have anything installed there but from my talks with the RR I do not think they have installed CH 89 equipment yet. We ran a test for them calling in at every mile post on NARCOA ch 2 151.505 Mc/s (WPHT745) with a 50 watt radio coupled too a 5/8 wave whip on the roof of our speeder, to asses communication to a hand held radio in Virginia city. As one might expect with the terrain communication was not good. Usable VHF communication the whole length of the track might be possible with a translator or repeater installed on tower located on one of the peaks in the area. However this would not be cheap, but I do not know what the RR management has in mind.
