How 'bout those SP 4-8-0's and ten wheelers...

I imagine Tom is thinking about the SP steam power YW leased in the 1930's. According to Kent Stephen's little YW book he published back in the mid-1990's, YW leased the following SP steam locomotives after the railroad scrapped the original power and the #10 was in declining health:

SP #2181 (ten wheeler)- leased in 1931 and 1933
SP #2171 (ten wheeler)- leased in 1932
SP #2178 (ten wheeler)- leased 6/14/1936-5/11/1937
SP #2932 (4-8-0)- leased 5/12/1937-11/6/1938
SP #2937 (4-8-0)- leased 11/7/1937-12/11/1939

By 12/12/1939 the YW had the #9 on the property, which apparently ended the use of leased SP steam engines. During some of the gaps in the leased SP power, the YW used primarily a little Plymouth switcher.

One other note about the YW #100. A photo turned up a few years ago of the #100 in a dead line in McCloud, CA, along with a number of other McCloud River steam locomotives. If you have the Pentrex tape on McCloud's Baldwin diesels, then you have seen footage of the #100 en route to the scrap yard along with three other McCloud steam locomotives.
