As we move up the SP 1970s roster we run into the vast central desert of the SP roster nicknamed by many railfans at the time as, the cruds. Do not get me wrong, they were great locomotives. But, it is hard to imagine how ubiquitous they were. Not only was there so many of them, there was more yard jobs then. Not only did they take over the work of the Alco, Baldwin and FM switchers; they were used on the road too! Great from the SP's standpoint. So, I tended to either only shoot them when I was testing a camera or lens or when there was something else unique about them or how they were being used.
