Southbound on old 99, well north of Bakersfield, We had a leisurely lunch, parked on the shoulder of a Southbound on-ramp, watching tie replacement. Spread was maybe a mile long.
Supported by several mechanics, foremen, and chemical toilets. Fascinating and educational.

A week or two later, the equipment was on it's dedicated flatcar train in Bakersfield.
With "school buses" and toilets.
