Regarding Marty Bernard's great photo of Portland Union Station in tonight's Trainnews:

Portland Union Station in June of 1963......

One of the SP units is painted in the failed SPSF "Kodachrome" paint scheme, with the "SF" apparently painted over. So the photo was certainly from after December 1983, when the merger was announced, and most likely after denial of the merger appeal in June 1987.
