i have been collecting date nails for many, many years and belong to the national association of collectors. i have written many articles on them and still enjoy the hobby, although most railroads stopped using them in the late 60's. but utilities continue to use them in poles.

the web page listed (hosted by jeff oaks) is a wonderful site for explanation of nails and the many types, shapes, varieties and metals they have. i would be happy to try and answer any specific questions regarding railroad use as i have collected most sets of railroads in the west. an interesting hobby, but unfortunately the supply is dwindling as most class one roads either put in new wooden ties or switch to concrete, composite, or steel ties.

also, if any of you have nails you might want to trade i have many extras from various roads.
