almo- Was this the santa fe idea for high speed intermodal? I remember an idea of an expandible train on a snake like flexible and long center sill and many [all?] powered axles. there were to be power modules to get juice to axles, and mountings along the sill for intermodal units [containers?]. This is in the back of my memory; I recall reading an aeticle about it [Railway Age, probably] thirty years ago. The attempt was to lower center of gravity and improve cornering with the multiple self steering axles. Acceleration might have been an advantage, too with all the powered axles. reh
