I vaguely remember seeing a "news item" about the coaxial train around that time in Trains. It was futuristic looking (remember the UA TurboTrain that was running around at about the same time?) but obviously more complicated than the relatively simple-technology "Integral Train" John Kneiling was promoting at about the same time in the same magazine (remember the "Professional Iconoclast"?). Similar idea - semi-fixed-consist container trains with all or most axles powered. Neither idea went anywhere, but the multiple-platform container cars we see now may at least partly have been inspired by those ideas.
