The observations and opinions made here regarding the improbability or outright impossibility of retrieving digitally-saved information due to changes in technology firmly cement mine and others' opinion that saving photographic images in the same manner will ultimately result in tragedy.
Given that the data spoken of here in this thread is only a few years old, and may or may not be accessible, what will become of photos archived today when they are requested thirty years from now? We film guys are very comfortable with sixty year old negatives that can be put in an enlarger or even scanned-in with relative ease.
Disregarding my obvious smugness, what will the average fellow do to continue to constantly upgrade and refresh/convert his digital photo archive over the next half-century? It's great that the relatively modern images that Drew and Steve are currently sharing with us are found at the fingertip. Will this be possible from digital images saved with today's popular software...or will it be like trying to play an 8-Track tape..right now?
