I live in a condo overlooking the track just north of Union Station. As anyone who commutes via Front St./Naito Parkway and the adjacent grade crossings can attest, there are still a lot of very long, very slow freights between Steel Bridge and Lake Yard. Among them are UP transfer runs, often with a GP39 and SD40-2 in the consist, and through trains with newer power. P&W freights also pass through there. BNSF power is rarely seen south of Nicolai St. except for light power moves.
